Publish the Paper on Impact Management on Japanese Journal with Japanese Leading Institutional Investor

IMPACTLAKE has published joint research results, developed with the support and collaboration of leading institutional investor and the academic institution, focusing on the evolution of impact accounting and the use of logic models in business strategies on a Japanese journal, Disclosure&IR (TAKARA D&IR Research Institute).

As businesses aim for sustainability, Impact Management—advanced ESG—is becoming more vital. Our joint research simplifies Impact Management, using Impact-Weighted Accounts to quantify impact universally. This method includes a logic model for visualizing corporate ripple effects and articulating business strategies. By adopting this integrated approach, we highlight the practical importance of Impact Management for companies and investors.

IMPACTLAKE will continue various initiatives and collaborations in the field to promote the simultaneous achievement of social value creation and sustainable growth for companies, contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.

IMPACTLAKE, in collaboration with Real Tech Holdings, Support Eco-Pork’s Publication of Impact Report

IMPACTLAKE Co. Ltd. (Location: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Reona Sekino), in partnership with Real Tech Holdings Co., Ltd. (Location: Sumida-ku, Tokyo, Representatives: Yukihiro Maru, Akihiko Nagata), has supported the creation and publication of impact report for Eco-Pork Co., Ltd. (Location: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Takashi Kambayashi).

Details of this support

This support is part of the collaboration announced in November 2023, aimed at enhancing and sophisticating support for impact startups. Since summer 2023, IMPACTLAKE and Real Tech Holdings have been providing practical support including impact measurement and management (IMM) to Eco-Pork, a pig farming tech startup whose vision is to “bridging meat culture to the next generation” and a portfolio company of the Real Tech Fund, a VC managed by Real Tech Holdings.

As a result of Eco-Pork’s business promotion and our support including the establishment of an IMM system and flow, and the construction and quantification of a logic model using the impact management tool “impactlake™,” Eco-Pork was selected for “J-Startup Impact,” a program operated by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in October 2023.

Outcome: Eco-Pork Impact Report

As one of the external outcomes of the practical support, we support the preparation and publication of Eco-Pork’s Impact Report.

The main contents of this report are as follows:

  • The importance of social issues related to Eco-Pork’s business
    • The report includes a forecast of a so-called “protein crisis” that could occur as early as 2027, when there will be an imbalance between supply and demand for the protein that sustains the human diet, as well as research on the social issues facing livestock production, especially pig farming.
  • Eco-Pork’s Solutions
    • Among Eco-Pork’s total solutions for pig farmers, this section describes the logic model and trial calculations for productivity improvement using “Porker,” the core pig farming management support system.
  • Impact Story, Quantification of Impact Creation, and IMM policy
    • The domestic market share of “Porker” is approximately 11% (as of January 2024).
    • The farmers who have implemented Porker have improved productivity by an average of 7% in the first year.
    • According to our calculations, the improved performance of Porker has resulted in the shipment of 134,000 more pigs per year, and the increased production has resulted in the distribution of 10,000 tons of pork carcass meat in Japan.
    • This means that the sales of pig farmers who have implemented Porker have increased by 5.37 billion yen per year, or an average of 67 million yen per farmer per year.

This report is available on the Real tech Holdings and Eco-Pork websites.
